In Marseilles, along Washington Street, is the Marseilles Post Office, which has a cornerstone that has a year of 1936.

The post office is located about a block east of Main Street, and is at the corner of Washington and State Streets. The cornerstone is located near this intersection in the southeast corner of the building. The stone is about 2 ft from the ground, on the wall facing Washington Street, and behind bushes.

The stone has the following text:

"Henry Morgenthau Jr
Secretary of the Treasury

James A Farley
Postmaster General

Louis A Simon
Supervising Architect

Neal A Melick
Supervising Engineer

1936"

The date was during the period of the Great Depression. There is a web site that lists Marseilles as having New Deal art - created in 1938. The building wasn't open at the time of the visit to verify that it was still there.
Year of construction: 1936
