The church was blessed & opened on 6 August 1882 after a committee was formed two years earlier to look at building a stone church to replace the wooden one that had occupied the site since 1864. Additions were added in 1980 & 1995.
The Very Rev. Dean M P Malone who occupies the only grave in the churchyard was a former parish priest with the church. There are several memorials beside the grave honouring young people who died as a result of motor vehicle accidents.
The headstone reads: In memory of the Very Rev. Dean M P Malone born Piltown Kilkenny Ireland 15.11.1866 ordained All Hallows College Dublin 24.6.1892 died 11.10.1960 R.I.P.
