After two days of travel across the desert without direct access to water, many emigrants came to the Snake River at the mouth of Rosevear Gulch to water their stock. Some elected to cross the river here. Because the water at this location was too deep to ford, wagons were used as boats or ferries. The cattle were forced to swim the river.
