From the Idaho Scenic Byways web page:

After the transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869, the Kelton Road was the most popular of the freight roads which developed across southern Idaho. It separated from the Oregon Trail to the southeast to avoid a very rocky section. Ruts of the Oregon Trail and the Kelton Road can be seen in the area.
