From the Idaho Scenic Byways web page:

Canyon Creek was a popular camping area along the Oregon Trail. The valley was often crowded with emigrant wagons. The round shape and steep walls reminded many of a barrel. In later years, Archibald and Harriette Daniel operated a stage station here. Ruts can be seen on both sides of the valley. Remains of the stage station still stand.
