An inscription at the base of the monument reads:
Erected by the residents of the district to those who nobly answered their country's call in the Great War AD 1914 - 1919.
There is no date on the monument to identify when it was erected or dedicated but obviously sometime after the Great War. After the Second World War & the Vietnam War another plaque was added listing those who served. The website 'Register of War Memorials' gives the date of dedication as 1993/11/11 however this is the 75th anniversary of the end of the Great War & there is a small brass plaque at the base which was attached on that date. I've noticed these plaques on other memorials. Hopefully the error that occurred on the website for this monument wont be repeated.
