This Memorial Garden, dedicated to the memory of Dr. James G. Bourekis, is at the entrance to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Spokane.

Born March 30, 1930, Dr. Bourekis was a dentist who practiced in and around Spokane for a total of 43 years, retiring in 1998. He passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2009.

Jim was born March 30, 1930, in Warren, and attended Warren G. Harding High School where he was president of National Honor Society. He attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, from 1948 to 1950 and Northwestern University Dental School from 1950 to 1954, where he received his dental degree.

Jim was stationed at Fairchild A.F.B. from 1954 to 1956. After his discharge, he married Katherine Barbas of Seattle and they moved to Warren. He practiced dentistry there until 1960. He and Kathy moved back to Spokane for good in 1960, and Jim was associated in practice with his brother-in-law, Dr. T. John Tsalaky. He retired in 1998 after 43 years of practice.

He was a member of the American Dental Association and Spokane Dist. Dental Society since 1960. He was also a member of the National Dental Fraternity, Delta Sigma Delta.

Jim was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and in 1960 joined AHEPA, a Hellenic men's organization. Jim was a member of Spokane Valley Rotary since 1961 and was on the board of directors of Modern Electric Water Co. since 1985 and recently elected president. Jim's greatest love was his family. The memorial garden is a small raised garden placed to the right of the main entrance to the church, containing low growing evergreens and, through summer, s smattering of flowering annuals.
