The first flag of Stein around 1840 was an example of canting arms that did not meet heraldic standards at all. In 1939 a historically justified model was found: the coat of arms of the noble family von Stein, who played a role in the region in the 13th century. This new flag finally became official in 1965, but was already in use several years before.

I found this flag at the entrance to a sheltered workshop of a local non-profit organization at the eastern border of town.
