The Werri Beach to Loves Bay, Kiama section of this 22 kilometre walk was officially opened by Cr. Sandra McCarthy Mayor of Kiama & Mr. Matt Brown Member for Kiama (State Legislator) on 11 October 2009. There were already sections of land converted to crown reserve with the then State Government purchasing the balance. The Kiama Council was responsible for erecting the fences, seating, information bays & maintaining the track.
Serving a record-breaking 12 years as mayor, Cr McCarthy was highly regarded in local government circles and will be remembered for guiding Kiama council through a stable period of local government in what was a tumultuous political time in the Illawarra. Cr. McCarthy did not stand for re-election in the 2012 Local Government elections.
Mr. Matt Brown M.P. was elected as the Member for Kiama in 1999. He was sworn in as Minister for Housing & Tourism in 2007 & promoted to Minister for Police & Minister for Illawarra in 2008. He resigned a few days later as a result of alleged inappropriate behaviour. He lost office in the last State Government elections in 2011.

The Kiama Coast Walk from Werri Beach to Loves Bay, Kiama was officially opened by the Mayor Councillor Sandra McCarthy and Member for Kiama Mr.Matt Brown M.P. on Sunday 11 October 2009.
The purchase of sections of the land to provide a continuous Crown Reserve was carried out by the State Government, whilst the construction & ongoing management of the reserve is the responsibility of council.
Funding assistance was provided by the Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority for the construction of the track.
