Set up in the plaza to the west of the Columbia River Maritime Museum off Highway 30 in Astoria is this two tonne bronze ship's propeller. It is a memorial to Arthur E.Farr, b.1911, d.2004, placed here by his family and friends. it is sometimes called the brass butterfly.
Arthur E. Farr was honored by the Propeller Club in 1993. The Columbia River Propeller Club chapter has since been merged with the Portland Shipping Club and can found at 200 Sw Market St, #L190, Portland, OR 97201, between SW 2nd Ave and SW 3rd Ave.
The brass plaque on the concrete base supporting the propeller reads:-

Arthur Edward Farr was born January 03, 1906 in Felton, California.
His application for a Seaman's Protection Certificate was dated September 27, 1929 in New York.
For his Seaman's Certificate of American Citizenship, No. 79189, Arthur's application lists his occupation 2nd Asst. Engn'r License #90208 - NY.
In Nov 28 1928 US Dept Comm Proof of birth was submitted by his brother's affadavit (his brother is Paul S. Farr, Chief Engineer, S/S Explorer; Am. Export Line, 2617 Halperin Ave, New York City)
In October 16, 1940 his WWII Draft Registration shows that he was employed by Hartford Steam, Boiler Inspection, & Insurance Co. as a Resident Inspector.
He married Signe Elvera Farr residing in Tacoma, Washington.
