Fischer joins the group at Roydon Station. Roydon station has changed significantly in the 40 years since the film. The level crossing no longer has gates and the canopy is narrower.

Mr Deutsch, a millionaire hires physicist, Lionel Barrett to investigate life after death. He is told to visit Belasco House, a house believed to be haunted by its owner Emeric Balasco, a murderer who disappeared after a massacre at the house.
Helping Barrett are his wife Edith, spiritualist minister, Florence Tanner, and a medium, Ben Fischer. Fischer has visited the house before.
It is not long before Tanner connects with the psychic energy in the house. Barrett is attacked and Edith Barrett is subjected to visions late at night. Fischer is initially unaffected, but is attacked when he drops his psychic guard.
Tanner thinks that the psychic presence is Belasco’s son, Daniel. A body is found chained behind a wall, believed to be Daniels. Tanner becomes haunted by Daniel. She enters the chapel, in an attempt to warn the spirits in the house about Barrett’s investigations, only to be crushed by a falling crucifix.
Barrett has brought a machine with him to exorcise the spirits. He fails and is killed. Fischer decides to confront the spirits in the house and goes to the chapel. In the chapel he finds a hidden door, behind which is the corpse of Belasco.
