The earliest known interment of a Richards in Greenwood Memorial Terrace is that of Charles E. Richards, born January 1, 1863 in Ohio, passed away Dec. 4, 1908. He was followed in 1913 by Henry M, Richards, who was born in 1849. There are several members of the Richards family now in this cemetery.
The monolithic granite Richards Family Obelisk stands between 20 and 25 feet tall and is very similar to others, probably of roughly the same vintage, in the cemetery. It is a large cemetery, begun in 1888. As of this date its 151 acres contains the graves of over 16,000 individuals.
