The azimuth mark is a U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey Reference Mark disk stamped ---SCHULTZ 1933 AZIMUTH--- set in the top of a concrete post projecting about 8 inches above the surface of the ground. It is 24 feet northwest of the centerline of Dement Road, about 5 miles northwest of Valley Grove, 8 miles northeast of Wheeling, and 4 miles west of the West Virginia-Pennsylvania state line. To reach from the junction of U.S. Highway 40 and State Highway 88 about 2 miles east of Wheeling, go north-northeast on Highway 88 for 5.05 miles to a side road right. Turn right and go southeast on Dement Road for 2.0 miles to the azimuth mark on the left on the outside of a sharp curve.
