This speeder is located behind Southern Pacific locomotive #1727 at the entrance to Dunsmuir City Park.

In earlier days Dunsmuir was an important point on the Central Pacific/Southern Pacific mainline through the area. It housed and serviced the steam-powered helpers that were needed to make it over the grade to the north of the city. Today, maintenance-of-way crews still work out of Dunsmuir and the old turntable is still functional, while the roundhouse is no molre.
