The 125th anniversary of the birth of the sculpture of the monument will be celebrated thought the areas near the monument in October. The Freedom Monument it Riga serves as a reminder of Latvian war of Independence from the Soviet Union in 1918. There used to be a statue of Tzar Peter the Great, but it was taken down by the Latvian people. This new statue remains in it's place. On the top it the Latvian Lady Liberty and on the bottom is Latvian language.
