This business car was built in 1896 by the Virginia & Truckee shops in Carson City. The car was rebuilt in 1903 by the Southern Pacific and named Esmeralda at that time. The car was reassigned to several different railroads before its retirement in 1927 and conversion into sleeping quarters or a section house for railroad maintenance workers.
