M C Skelton Grave near Seligman, MO - Out of Place Graves on Waymarking.com

According to the grave marker, which is laying on the ground, "M C" Skelton lived only about 15 months, from 10 May 1856 to 11 August 1857. FindAGrave confirms this. "M C" was the first of two children buried here, and finally the father, John, eight years after M C. According to the plats, the family never officially designated the small area as a cemetery, but they buried some of their dead here anyway. M C's mother (John's wife, d. 1913) is not buried here, but instead was buried in Munsey Cemetery near Eagle Rock, MO.

These graves are on private land, but the land owner was very nice about letting me visit. Just after I got there she drove out of the field and up to the house in her tractor. She mentioned that some contemporary Skelton family members occasionally come by to see the graves. Her dog was very friendly, but I couldn't get him to move out of the way when I took a photo of the grave marker. He had to get into the photo!
