Visitors to Alturas along Main Street might notice this Art Deco-like entrance that is home to Modoc High School. This school was erected in 1939 as a Public Works Administration building and there are two plaques located left of the front entrance to the school. The top plaque reads:

The plaque below reads:

The school is a long, single-story structure and made of locally quarried stone, like many other older buildings that visitors may notice while traveling along Main Street.
