Opportunity Christian Fellowship is affiliated with the Free Methodist family/denomination of churches. The Free Methodist name is that of a breakaway family of Methodists whose name helps to explain why they broke from the Methodist Church. The Free in the name stands for three reasons for their departure:
• Their opposition to slavery, ie freedom for everyone
• Their disagreement with the then current practise of selling and renting pews, relegating the poor to the back of the church, ie free free seats for all.
• Their desire for freedom in worship.
