This station is located beside the Cowichan River, about 800 metres downstream from the official source of the river at the weir on Cowichan Lake. Data has been recorded at this location for 84 of the last 101 years. From 1913 to 1921, flow rates were recorded manually. The station has been recording flow rates automatically since 1940, with the level also being recorded since 2011. There have been increasing problems with low water levels in the Cowichan River in recent years, which is probably why this station is now recording water levels.
