This park is dedicated to Lake Cowichan's sister city, Ohtaki, Hokkaido, Japan. The two communities were twinned on September 14, 1989. Since then, on March 1, 2006, Ohtaki was merged into the city of Date.
The park consists of a small landscaped garden area and a footbridge over the nearby Cowichan River. The bridge (WM3Y5W) was formerly a trestle on the Canadian National Railway rail line, but was rebuilt several years ago as a footbridge after a fire and after the rail line was abandoned.
The park is marked by an intricately-carved wooden sign that commemorates the date that the two communities were twinned.
