The fire department was originally formed in 1947. In 1958, the fire department moved into a 3-bay fire hall at 39 South Shore Road, the current location of Lake Cowichan's municipal offices. In 2004, the current 6-bay building was built at 3 North Shore Road. The BC Ambulance Service has a station attached to the west end of the building.
