The fire department was originally known as "Honeymoon Bay Mill Volunteer Fire Department". It was established by Western Forest Industries in January 1947 and was staffed by WFI employees. A fire destroyed the mill in July 1948 and the fire deptartment was closed. In January 1949, after the mill reopened, the fire department was restarted and consisted of 14 members of the community.
When the mill closed in 1981, WFI still owned the fire hall and all of the equipment. The department became a part of the Honeymoon Bay Improvement District and all of the equipment was donated by WFI to the fire department. Property was donated by TAL Developments and the current fire hall was built.
