This marker is one of several located in Trailside Park in Peqout Lakes. The park houses the Veterans Memorial with markers dedicated to the Korean War, World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Purple Heart. A dedicated paver walkway leads to the memorial which is flanked by flags.
This marker reads:
Korean War 1950-1953
Why have they forgotten?
Will someone let me know,
A war fought through summers,
and through the winter's snows.
We were but young Americans
sent off to fight that war.
After it had ended,
you heard of us no more.
We were proud to serve our country
In that far off land,
Why has our nation forgotten,
We shall never understand.
In the center of the marker is a map of Korea
to the right it reads:
Total Servicemembers - 5,720.000
Service Deaths - 54,298
Nonmortal Woundings - 103,284
