W & J Wilson is a fine clothing store that has been located at the same address since they opened in 1862. It's considered one of North America's oldest family-run clothing stores and is now in its sixth generation of owners split between two families. Over their 151 years of operation, the store has expanded twice - in the 1870s and 1912 - expanding from a log-frame building farther back on the property to the current building. As a point of reference, the store opened 5 years before the country of Canada was formed and 9 years before the province of British Columbia was founded. They sold socks to British Columbia founding father James Douglas, outfitted hanging judge Matthew Begbie with deerskin gloves and silk umbrellas, and helped Bishop Edward Cridge, the Hudson's Bay Company's first Anglican chaplain, ward off cold pioneer nights with flannel drawers.
