Pêro d'Amigos is just another example of demographic desertification. Youngsters fled the place, attracted by the glamour of the big cities or the lively Algarvian coastline. Old people stayed behind departing the world of the living or forced to move to family homes or even to senior nurseries somewhere else.
This village had about 30 households, and electricity poles can be seen, a trace of progress which came too late for this community.
It's easy to access Pêro d'Amigos, after drive for about 5 km on a dirt road. There are scattered houses around the core of the village.
