Located in Alturas Cemetery is the headstone of Caroline Mills Soldate. I managed to locate family info on her as well as an online news article from Nov. 22, 1933 that reads:

Mrs. Caroline Soldate, who was seriously injured on October 8th, when the car in which she was riding went over the grade, turning over several times causing serious injuries to her, has so far recovered to be able to return from San Francisco to her home in Alturas last Monday.

I also located an online family tree for Caroline. It reads:

Caroline Nellie Mills born on 26 Oct 1885 in Penngrove, Sonoma, California, USA and died on 19 Feb 1992 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA at age 106.

Caroline married Walter George Soldate in 1919. Walter was born on 30 Aug 1882 in California, USA and died on 10 Dec 1951 in Santa Clara, Santa Clara, California, USA at age 69.

The child from this marriage was: Albert Mills Soldate, born on 1 Dec 1920 and died on 25 Sep 1999 in Arcadia, Los Angeles, California, USA at age 78. Albert married McIntyre.

Caroline's parents family tree info:

Lucy Denning Wharff, born on 11 Dec 1854 in Penngrove, Sonoma, California, USA and died on 16 Apr 1940 in Alturas, Modoc, California, USA at age 85.

Argus OBIT, Petaluma, CA
April 19, 1940:

Friends paid a tender farewell to Mrs. Lucy Mills, widow of William A. Mills, when funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Palo Alto. The flowers sent to her bier were beautiful and expressed the love of hundreds of friends.

Mrs. Mills death followed soon after the passing of her husband. The couple resided at Penngrove for many years and were among the pioneers of the county. She was aged 85 years. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Wharff, who ranked among the earliest residents of Penngrove. Her late husband was prominent here in earlier years and the family acquaintance was large. Miss Elizabeth Goshen of this city attended the funeral of her late aunt.

Lucy married William Andrew Mills on 22 Apr 1874. William was born on 18 Apr 1852 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and died on 15 Jan 1940 in Alturas, Modoc, California, USA at age 87.

Caroline was one of six children. Their names and order of births:

Lucy Olive Mills was born on 8 Sep 1876 in Virginia City, Storey, Nevada, USA, died on 23 Oct 1958 in Santa Rosa, Sonoma, California, USA at age 82, and was buried in Guerneville, Sonoma, California, USA.

Harry David Mills was born on 17 Oct 1881 in Penngrove, Sonoma, California, USA, died on 19 Jan 1883 in California, USA at age 1, and was buried Cypress Hill Cemetery in Petaluma, Sonoma, California, USA.

Caroline Nellie Mills was born on 26 Oct 1885 in Penngrove, Sonoma, California, USA and died on 19 Feb 1992 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA at age 106.

Florence Belinda Mills was born on 7 Jan 1888 in Penngrove, Sonoma, California, USA and died on 31 Aug 1975 in , Los Angeles, California, USA at age 87.

Percy Albert Mills was born on 1 Apr 1894 in Penngrove, Sonoma, California, USA and died on 26 Nov 1918 in Saint Mihiel, France at age 24.

It was sad to read that Caroline lost her oldest brother so young in age and her baby brother in WWI. It's also amazing to read she suffered serious in a car accident and recovered to live so many more years. There's an inscription on Caroline's headstone that reads:

NE CEDE MALIS

This is a latin phrase which means 'Yield not to misfortunes'. I wonder if this inscription is referencing her accident and loss of her siblings?
