From Find a Grave:
(visit link)

"Gilbert Swanson helped bring us the 'TV Dinner' which -since its invention- has become part of American Pop Culture. The idea for the TV Dinner actually came from a Swanson V.P. named Gerry Thomas who was trying to figure out what to do with an overabundance of frozen turkeys in their inventory. He brought his idea to the directors of Swanson's who quickly moved to bring the product to market. It hit the grocery store shelves in 1954 and became an instant hit with consumers. Thomas still has one of the original TV dinner trays on display in his home. Gilbert Swanson ran Swanson's when the TV Dinner came out and was instrumental in its development and marketing."
Description:
See Above - Charles Swanson was the owner of Swanson Foods - the developer of frozen TV dinners.
