Located within the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge are two placards just off the road leading to the Refuge headquarters and visitor center. One placard highlights the history of this area and the events that led to the creation of this Refuge. The other placard highlights the habitats and flora that can be found while visiting this Refuge. These habitats include the deepwater marsh, mudflats, seasonal marsh, uplands, meadows and grain fields and wet meadows. The fauna found here include songbirds, great blue herons and ducks, Canada geese, pheasants and many more species.
