Highview Estates Early Warning Siren - East Peoria, IL - Outdoor Warning Sirens on Waymarking.com

In East Peoria, in a residential neighborhood (Highview Estates) and near a Grange Hall, is this warning siren along Georgia Parkway.

The siren is located near a retention pond and about 300 ft east of a bend in the road.

The siren is situated on a telephone pole and has a cylindrical speaker configuration, providing omni-directional coverage. The web page about these sirens on the East Peoria city web site states that this is Siren No. 1011 at 414 Georgia Parkway. This is a severe weather siren, sounded when there is an oncoming severe storm. The siren is activated by the East Peoria Telecommunications Center.

I visited the area in early September, 2013. At the time of writing this waymark, 11/17/2013, the city next to East Peoria, Washington, was hit by a major tornado about two miles southeast of this siren. The storm was a fast moving system. That is why these sirens are needed.
