A series of signs within the park's pavilion provides the following information about the gardens and the Bask in the Sun seating:
"The park you are visiting had its origins as a private garden designed and nurtured by two generations of women: Blanche Butler Ames and her daughter Blanche Ames Ames. They used their creative talents to develop the garden with ponds, pathways, sculpture and various destinations to appeal to young and old alike.
Perhaps one of the nicest touches of all is the "BASK IN THE SUN", a sheltered seating area where one can sit sheltered from the winter wind and contemplate the Halifax River."
The Bask in the Sun seating was restored in 1994. However, one of the faces carved into the top of the seating has since been partially broken off.
