Visitors to Yreka's Western Railroad Station might notice this mining loader camped on the loading dock behind the station. From the serial plates and markings this loader was made by Joy Manufacturing Co. It is a Class HL-3 loader and manufactured in Claremont, New Hampshire. I did a little online research and discovered that this company is still in business after almost 100 years when it was first incorporated in 1919 by Joseph Joy. The company has been bought and merged with other companies over the decades but still retains its original name today.

Yreka begin its roots as a gold mining town in the mid-to-late 1800s and would assume this loader was used in some mining shaft in the nearby mountains many decades ago.
