Located in Claggett Cemetery in Keizer, this gravestone markes the burial place of Frances J. Prettyman. In 1897, the year of Mrs. Prettyman's birth, the first major college basketball game was played (Yale vs. Penn), Bram Stoker published Dracula, William McKinley became the 25th President of the United States and a treaty was signed to annex the Republic of Hawaii to the United States, Britain celebrated Queen Victoria's 60th year on the throne. When she died in 1997, OJ Simpson was found liable for $25 million in damages for the wrongful deaths of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman and Brazil passed a law (finally) allowing women to wear slacks.
