There is an inscription on the dial that reads:

Sadly, possibly an oversight, the "hour" marks have no indication as to which
hour they represent! Photos were taken at 10am GMT so the mark at the bottom
would appear to mark 12 noon with the marks to the left being the morning hours
and those to the right the afternoon hours.
The British Sundial
Society website shows that a Mr Christopher St J H Daniel is currently
(November 2013) the President of the Society.
