In picturesque Cerdanya valley in North Catalunya, unter Pyrennés Mts. next to Andorran border, is located small town Bellver de Cerdaña. In its southern part, Talló, you can find this beautiful stone Romanesque church of St. Mary of Talló (Iglesia de Santa María de Talló).
The church, documented since the 10th century, was one of the most important churches of the Cerdanya region until the 13th century. The chuch's nave of trapezoidal groundplan and notable size, flanked by the sacristy and 22 m tall bellfry (both from the late 17th century), is finished by semicircular apse. The apse covered by a barrel vault is from 11th century. The nave, divided inside into four parts by toral arches, is from 13th century and is supported by unusual exterior semicircular pillars. The original nave's closure has not been preserved.
Intersting are also the wooden doors of main entrance, which preserve the original ironwork. Inside of the church you can find valuable wooden, 90 cm high, polychrome carving of Madonna with Child from 12th century.
