This small brick Amtrak station was built in 1928 by the Chicago and Alton Railroad and later became the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. It was the first railroad line to use Pullman cars for sleeping. The Alton station is one of three stations that serves Amtrak passengers in the St. Louis area and provides regular transportation between Chicago and St. Louis. It has a small waiting room and is staffed.
