Prairie Ridge Christian Union Church was
organized in the Old Prairie Ridge Schoolhouse on
December 2, 1876, by Brothers Adrew Arnote and J.M.
Harder, with 16 charter members. Brother George
Mitchell became pastor in 1882, and plans were
beginning to take shape to build a house of worship.
Land for the church site was donated by William
Arnote. The building was completed in April 1885.
This Church was a frame building and stood on Section
23. On the second Sunday in June 1886, the new
Prairie Ridge Christian Union Church building was
dedicated by Rev. J.V.D. Flack.
"Records show that Wm. M. & Jane Arnote deeded, on the
28th Nov. 1885, to James Sharp, Dallas Ward and Eli
Sharp, Trustees of the Christian Union Church at
Prairie Ridge, one ace and 65 rods to be used and
known as a public cemetery or burying ground. The
only provisions were that the said trustees would have
the cemetery surveyed and laid off in lots suitable
for the family burying places and said trustees were
to fence or cause to be fenced all of the described
land with a good and sufficient fence. This land was
surveyed May 23, 1887." ~ US Gen Web
