The painter
Growing up in Sainte-Adèle, Étienne Martin soon discovers the scent, characteristics and possibilities ink has to offer. An honest person whether in front of a canvas or facing life. Étienne creates for creating, without comparison or pretension. Having a very receptive mind, you will able to recognize him by the smile he has on his face almost all the time. He is the reproduction of his subjects, authentic, exposed and without a mask.
The painting
In 1913, MGR Bruchési, while making its pastoral visit, came to consecrate the expansion of the Mont-Rolland mill. He allowed the construcion of a chapel. The two priests Parfait Michaud and J.A. Bolduc became the first to serve under the responsability of Father Armand Paiement of Sainte-Adèle.
In 1914, the syndics for the construction of the chapel are elected. The chosen people are: Jean Rolland, manager of the plant and consultant of Sainte-Adèle, Ovila Proteau, merchant and postal worker, Moïse Deschambault, hotelier, Lambert Beauchamp and Aurèle Lanthier, plant book-keeper. The construction will be done on a small lot given by Jean Rolland who got it from his father. The architect plans will be executed by Wilfrid Fillion of Saint-Jérôme at the cost of 4575$. The priestly ornements were provided by a merchant in bankruptcy. The Rolland supplied the wood, the tools and the main-power for the construction. A family member gave the organ and a painting of the Sainte-Famille. Chairs occupied the nave and the first mass was celebrated on Christmas day. The consecration of the chapel was done by Mgr Martin. A tombola was organized by Father Paiement from Sainte-Adèle and brought in 2000$.

À Sainte-Adèle où il passe son enfance et son adolescence, Étienne Martin découvre très tôt les odeurs, les propriétés et les possibilités de l'encre. Une personne intègre que ce soit devant une toile ou devant la vie. Étienne fait pour faire, sans comparaison et sans prétention. D'une grande disponibilité, vous pourrez le reconnaitre à son sourire en quasi permananece. Il est la reproduction de ses sujets, authentique, nu et sans masque.
La peinture
En 1913, Mgr Bruchési, en visite pastorale, vient bénir l'agrandisement de l'usine de Mont-Rolland. Il accorde le droit de construire une chapelle. Les abbés Parfait Michaud et J.A. Bolduc devinrent les premiers prêtres desservants sous la responsabilité du curé Armand Paiement de Sainte-Adèle.
Dès 1914, les syndics sont élus pour la construction de la chapelle. Les élus sont: Jean Rolland, gérant de l'usine et conseiller de Sainte-Adèle, Ovila Proteau, marchand général et postier, Moïse Deschambault, hôtellier, Lambert Beauchamp et Aurèle Lanthier, comptable de l'usine. La construction se fera sur une partie du lot donné par Jean Rolland qui l'avait reçu de son père. Les plans d'architecte seront exécutés pas Wilfrid Fillion de Saint-Jérôme au prix de 4575$. Les ornements sacerdotaux viennent d'un marchand en faillite. Les Rolland fournissent le bois, les outils et les hommes pour la construction. Un membre de la famille donne l'orgue et le tableau de la Sainte-Famille. Des chaises occupent la nef et la première messe sera célébrée le jour de Noël. La bénédiction de la chapelle sera faite par Mgr Martin. Une tombola organisée par le curé Paiement de Sainte-Adèle rapporta 2000$.
