For most of its history, this was the village of North Tarrytown, NY. In more recent times, the village voted to change its name to Sleepy Hollow in order to capitalize on the notoriety of Washington Iving's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow".

The landscape described in Irving's story (published under the pseudonym of Archibald Knickerbocker) include real landmarks such as the Old Dutch Church and its adjacent cemetery. The original wooden bridge was wiped out in a flood, and the main thoroughfare bridge that crosses the creek near that bridge is a modern one.

Irving is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, overlooking both the Old Dutch Church and the creek with the fabled bridge.

Much is made of this fable in Sleepy Hollow, with much to be had in the way of souviners. The village clock, simply extends that branding to the streets!

Although I visited within a couple of weeks of Halloween, I am pretty sure the pumpkin decor accompanies the clock year-round. This clock design is one that has been mass produced since the 1990s when freestanding town clocks became popular public beautification projects. This one is matte black with a white face and Roman numerals. "Sleepy Hollow" appears in guilder letters above the clock face on every side.
