In its heyday Bradford had a successful textile industry and became known as the wool capital of the world.
Sunbridge Road was established in 1837 and follows a north westerly route out of the city centre. A large number of textile warehouses were built alongside this road. This pub lies not far outside the city centre and was probably built to serve the workers in the warehouses.
The sign depicts rays of sun shine surrounding the sun and the disc of the sun has a face on it.
Although traditionally it is the moon that is depicted as having a face it also a common feature of pubs called The Sun. In this case although the sign simply has the name The Sun, on the wall is a sign saying The Sun Hotel.
A large fire in 2007 resulted in adjoining warehouses being demolished and the pub now stands alone at the corner of Sunbridge Road and Tetley Street.
