This plaque reads:
"Meadowvale Village
This monument commemorates the 150th Anniversay of Meadowvale achieving village status in 1836 and marks the location of a time capsule placed on this occasion.
June 31st 1986."
HISTORY:
The Credit River Valley of Ontario was originally the home of the Mississauga tribe (a band of the Ojibway native peoples). By 1805 the native peoples had surrendered most of their land to the British Government except for a small strip of land on either side of the Credit River, measuring about a mile on each side. Irish settlers began immigrating into the area from New York and began converting the land to agricultural use. By 1836, the area had prospered and was designated a village and had a mill, blacksmith shop, hotel, and mercantile. This plaque commemorates that accomplishment.
