Located in Paiute Cemetery, a Native American cemetery, are a few grave sites of centenarians. One grave site contains a headstone of Lizzie Godowa who lived from 1853 to 1955. I located an online
obituary for Lizzie on
FindaGrave.com which reads:
Herald & News June 14, 1955
Mrs Lizzie Godowa, a member of the Piute Tribe and one of the best-known residents on the Klamath Indian Reservation, died at the age of 102 at her home near Beatty on June 11. Her birthplace is not known since members of the tribes traveled widely over the entire northwest during her early years but she spent most of her lifetime on the reservation. It is believed she was born somewhere in what is now Klamath or Lake County. Survivors include a son, Frank Morgan Godowa, grandsons, James, Clarence and Leroy Godowa; granddaughters, Hattie Baker, Roselda Lawver and Clara Marie McNair; great-grandchildren, James Godowa Jr., and Regina Godowa; also 7 great great
grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at the graveside in the Paiute Cemetery on Wed., June 14th at 1 p.m. The Rev. Vincent Bodner will officiate.
