Built in the mid 1800's, this bed and breakfast offers historic and unique apartment style accomodations. Originally built as a brewery because of the cave entrance, it was first operated as a saloon. Later a livery was set on top of the saloon. Through the years it also served as a chicken plucking business, general store, beauty shop and mortuary.
In 1884, a jail was built next to the saloon. The walls are unique in that they are made of stacked 2x4's. The jail also served as a shoe repair shop, ice house and garage. Today it is one of the suites of the bed and breakfast.
The old "Cave" and "Jail" were remodeled in 1981 and opened as Minnesota's first licensed bed and breakfast.
There are four "suites", the separate Jail Cottage, a Cave suite (which is the old saloon), a Balcony Suite, perfect for the views of the St. Croix River Valley, and the Overlook Suite, with its 1950's deco.
