The FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 15 Washington St., was built in 1872 of Allegany County limestone.  It is of modified Gothic design and has a tower and a spire.- Maryland: A Guide to the Old Line State, Cumberland section, pg. 267.

The First Presbyterian Church continues as an active Presbyterian church in same building as was present when the Guide was written.  An education wing was added in 1954.  The actual church was not completed until 1875 with the tower and spire added in 1892.  The church has one service each Sunday at 11:00 am.
