Zamkovského chalet is one of few classic wooden cottages of High Tatras mountain range, built at the mouth of Mala Studena valley in elevation 1,475m / 4,839ft ASL in years 1943-44 by alpinist Stefan Zamkovsky. Now open for all hikers 24/7 all year.

Zamkovskeho chalet (or familiar - Zamka) is stylish wooden mountain cottage located in the mouth of the Mala Studena valley in High Tatras mountain range, Slovakia.
Thanks to its location near crossing of several frequent hiking trails is very popular place to visit among tourists and alpinists.

Cottage was founded on mountain meadow in elevation 1,475m (4,839ft) ASL by Stefan Zamkovsky in 1943 who lived here with his family only till 1948, when it was confiscated by communist regime.
chalet was renamed after captain Nalepka and Zamkovsky had to leave High Tatras. After Velvet revolution in 1989 was chalet returned back to Zamkovsky family in 1992.

Zamkovskeho cottage now offers simple accomodation in 2-4 bed rooms or with own sleeping bag on ceiling - and refreshment of course - all year long.
Like ever before, it is still supplied largely by mountain carriers - physical power of men carrying all goods and material on their shoulders.
They are supported by helicopter, but only few times per season.

Trail is very interesting with panoramic views and crossing of Great Waterfall (Obrovsky vodopad).

Zamkovskeho chata (1475 m) je utulna, vysokohorska chata pod hornou hranicou lesa v dolnej casti Malej Studenej doliny.
Vdaka vyhodnej polohe na horskej polane v blizkosti krizovatky oblubenych turistickych tras, je hojne navstevovana turistami, ktori prechadzaju vysokotatranskou magistralou, alebo mieria do nahor do Malej Studenej doliny na Teryho chatu.

Chatu postavil v rokoch 1942-1943 znamy horsky vodca a horolezec Stefan Zamkovsky (1908-1961) s manzelkou Ludmilou, dovtedy najomca na Teryho chate.
V obdobi 2.svetovej vojny poskytla Zamkovskeho chata a jej okolie ukryt prenasledovanym politickym utecencom, partizanom a zidovskym rodinam.
Po znarodneni chaty komunistickym rezimom bol Štefan Zamkovsky uradnou mocou povereny spravou Bilikovej chaty.
O niekolko tyzdnov ho oznacili za byvaleho kapitalistu, pozbavili miesta a vykazali z Tatier.
V roku 1992 bola chata v ramci restitucie vratena potomkom Stefana Zamkovskeho.

Zamkovskeho chata je otvorena celorocne, na pohlad nedavno zrekonstruovana a je velmi utulna.
Na prizemi je velka jedalenska miestnost. Vsade prevlada drevo, na stenach visia fotografie zo sucasneho zivota na horach, ale aj mnozstvo fotografii, ktore zachytavaju Stefana Zamkovskeho s rodinou a prace na stavbe chaty.
Poskytuje ubytovanie na dvoj- alebo stvorpostelovych izbach, pripadne na povale. Samozrejmostou je ponuka jedal a napojov.
Ceny su vyssie, nakolko je zasobovana pleciami nosicov, vynimocne vrtulnikom.

Samozrejme, len turisticky. Chata sa nachadza priblizne hodinu nenarocnej chodze od hornej stanice lanovky na Hrebienok.
Okolie chaty poskytuje vela moznosti na vysokohorsku turistiku, lezenie, v zime skialpinizmus.
