Crater Lake occupies the summit crater of a small shield volcano called Crater Mountain. The lake is at an elevation of about 6800 feet and covers about 10 acres. Crater Lake occupies a closed basin so there is no outlet stream.
Access to the lake is from Calif. Hwy. 44 via F.S. Rd. 32N08.
