John Kerr was a prominent lumber man and builder who came to Petrolia in 1875. The original property, located close to the town centre, was three acres and included five oil wells which provided fuel for heating the mansion.
Nemo Hall has three floors, 16 rooms, 9 bedrooms, 5 fireplaces, a marble fireplace which won first prize at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893 and wood trimmed floor to ceiling mirrors in the living room and den. The fountain and the coach light on the front lawn are original to the home.
In its time it has been a residence, a nursing home and an antique store. I thought I recently saw it had been sold although its still listed at under $300,000
