"St. Constantine is an impressive building, dating from the fourteenth century, standing in the centre of the village of Milton Abbot.

According to legend, the Cornish King Constantine was out hunting when a stag hid under St Petroc's robe. As a result of this encounter Constantine was converted to Christianity and later he founded a church at Middletona or "The Middle Farm".

This church was looked after by the monks of Tavistock Abbey and in 1155 was created perpetuus vicarius; this gave Milton Abbot the first pastoral vicar in England"
