This Eastlake-Style Victorian home belonged to Thomas and Elizabeth Metcalf. It was relocated to the grounds of the Pioneer Village at the Kern County Museum in Bakersfield.

Thomas Metcalf built this charming Eastlake-style Victorian house on the southwest corner of Dracena and C Streets near downtown Bakersfield in 1885.
Thomas Metcalf, born in St. Clairsville, Ohio, enlisted to fight for the Union Army as a private during the Civil War. In 1867, two years after the war ended, he married Elizabeth Wible. Thomas and Elizabeth had two children, Simon and Modena (Maude). The Metcalf family came to Kern County in 1883. They initially settled on a ranch south of Bakersfield.
Simon became an electrical engineer eventually settling in San Diego. Maude attended Mills Women’s Seminary College in Oakland, California. After returning to Bakersfield, she lived in this house until 1958. Maude taught at several local elementary schools including Bryant and Emerson. Maude was active in the Woman's Club of Bakersfield, serving as its president from 1938-39.
Raymond Jones donated this house in 1959.
