Depicted ruins of Byzantine monastery Timiou Stavrou (Holy Cross), the landmark of Anogyra village, is located 1 km southwards of the village centre.
The early Byzantine monastery (ca 6th century), named after the Holy Cross, was abandoned in the 19th century and majority of its building are nowadays only ruins. Original, Byzantine three-aisle basilical church, was destroyed in medieval times and the existing church was built in the 14th century. The church, simple single nave structure with by dome covered tambour, is valuable thanks to remnants of medieval frescoes.
The Cyprus Department of Antiquities started excavations in the site in 2000 and renovation of the church.
